Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is an international relief and development agency working towards a caring world where the basic requirements of people in need are fulfilled. IRW responds to disasters and emergencies and works with local communities to reduce poverty by promoting sustainable economic and social development.
ISG conducted an independent progress review of IRW’s Program Partnership with DFID. The IPR assessed the relevance, efficiency, effectiveness, sustainability, and results of the funded interventions, their additionality and impacts of the funding on what IRW has been able to achieve as a result of DFID funding, and assessed value for money. The IPR also verified, and supplemented when necessary, information submitted by IRW to DFID through the Annual Review Process, changing lives case study, and additionality report.
Finally, this review explored whether key components identified as critical to the success of the programme are implemented; whether strategies are in place to reach target populations for Islamic microfinance programmes in Bangladesh, Kenya, Pakistan and Sudan to improve livelihoods; and whether IRW is increasing awareness and understanding of Islamic stances on five policy issues.
